5 months (5 and a half, actually)

Ok, so I'm finally getting around to the 5 month update (bad momma, I know) so this will kind of encompass the last month and a half. What can I say, we have a little boy on our hands. Brady is really becoming such a little man. Not only are his looks becoming less baby-like, but his mannerisms and personality just seem to be maturing. These days he is tipping the scales around 17lbs. and in his 6-9 month clothes. For being such a big boy, you'd think he'd be chowing down on cereal, fruits and veggies....nope! This month we've tried it all a handful of times and each time you'd think we were poisoning him with the faces he made. We're giving it a couple more weeks before we try again. He's back to sleeping good-- usually 8pmish till 6am, but naps are still a struggle during the day. Rarely will he nap unless someone rocks him or I feed him. That's on our "to-do" parenting list, trust me. He is still battling with eczema, but we found to keep it fairly under control with some hydrocortisone creme. I think I've taken it harder than he has.

On the mobile front, yesterday he finally rolled over! (Only took 5 1/2 months you little lazy bones!) He can do belly to back pretty easily (thanks to his larger-than-average coconut, as Bob likes to call it), and if he is really persistent, he can get back to belly. A couple more weeks and we should have a pretty mobile kiddo. He can sit up on his own for anywhere from 5-30 seconds, and likes to practice on our bed where he can fall over into a pile of squishiness (bugging Bob to give me a video to upload at the moment). Also, as of this week his jolly jumper is quite the entertainer. He bounces in that thing like theres no tomorrow. Of course Bob attributes that to his genes and insists that Brady is inheriting his superb long-jumping skills. (We'll see.)

Here are a few more shots from the holiday season. Happy New Year everyone and happy 5 (and a half) month birthday little buddy! We love you!

Merry Christmas!

Some shots from Christmas morning at the Jones house... Brady seemed to like the wrapping paper the best!
At Grandma Cleo's for her holiday party with big cousins Payton and Elexis...
And at Grammy and Grandpa Johnny's for Christmas dinner...

I know I'm slacking with the 5 month update... I will get it out soon when Brady's not squirming on my lap!

Sleep... what's that?

I forgot. No, really... what is it like to get a real nights sleep? Brady has not been sleeping good for us lately. Its a combination of his poor itchy skin and crankiness... and it makes for a loooong night. I think that all I want for christmas is to sleep one night really good. Like go to bed at 9pm and sleep in till 9am. Without getting up. Sigh.
Yeah, thats what I want for christmas. That is... until I saw this picture sent over from grandma and grampy's. Who cares about sleep when I have this...

Sick baby

Poor little sickie... Brady had quite the upset belly tonight. I would never have believed he could have that much liquid in his belly if I hadn't see it with my own two eyes. Made our first after-hours call to the pediatrician and they just want to make sure he stays hydrated. No fever or fussiness, so we're just going to see how it plays out. We think it might be due to his having a bottle of formula today...which was his first in over a month. After all that excitement, the poor little guy cuddled up to me and fell asleep around 6:30. Waiting to see what the night has in store for us...

Happy 4 month birthday little buddy!

Mommy and Daddy (and everyone else) love you so much!
Our little linebacker's stats were 16.6lbs and 25inches at his doctor's appointment yesterday. As if we didn't know already, we have a big kid on our hands. His doctor commented on how pleased she is with his growth, and Brady responded by grabbing and yanking her stethoscope when she was trying to listen to his heart. We heard the famous line "He's strong!" once again. As for his rashy face, she thinks its dry skin or possibly eczema, so we put some hydrocortisone on his forehead and cheeks and it went away overnight! That was easy! We just have to make sure he is properly moisturized, as she says babies tend to get really dry and itchy when the weather changes as it has here. Brady also got a few shots which he did NOT like. He must have tired himself out crying at the doctor's office because he slept soundly for 11 hours without a peep.

Dealing with the yuckies...

Poor Brady. He's been having a hard time the past 2 days. What started off as a little snot here and there turned into his first full blown cold today. He's got it all... the whiny, snotty, pitiful little hold-me-all-day moan. Bob's got it too. Oh, and I had it last week... which I guess means that I prolly gave him all those yucky germs. Bad mommy.

On top of that, the poor little guy has a serious case of the baby acne. Bob says he's a candidate for a Proactive commercial. And me, being the bad mom I am, probably made it worse. I thought a little Eucrin creme would help, but the nurse at the ped office today told me that probably made it flare up. So, we will stick to good ole' water for a while.

He's been sleeping since 7pm (Oh, and did I mention that last night he slept 8pm to 7am, straight?)... but I snapped this pic of him sleeping peacefully so everyone can help me have a pity party for my poor little sickie.

Baby Einstein in the flesh!

Not even 4 months and he's already standing and reading books. I almost fell over yesterday when he requested a James Patterson novel. Thank you Aunt Claudia and Uncle Cam for the cute "Daddy's Little Buddy" sweatshirt and the nursery rhyme books!

Back to the ole grind...

Last week I started back to work....and yes, I cried. Its hard to go from spending just about every waking (and half asleep) moment with my little buddy to being away from him for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. What can I say, it makes me sad :( . But, every day has been a little easier and I am getting back into the swing of things with work. Its a little scary because it seems like I never left! Brady has been doing great though, and couldn't know the difference. He spends his days with Grammy and Grandpa at their house or at home with daddy. I keep up to date on his every move with multiple annoying phone calls throughout the day. Mom also satisfies my Brady fix by emailing me pics, like this one:
and this one:
He is getting so big, isn't he?!?! Where is the time going?

3 months

A couple of more months and his snowsuit will fit perfectly! Right now he looks like the little brother from A Christmas Story.

Can't you tell how much he loves tummy time?

More mysterious dress up photos show up after an evening with Grammy and Grandpa...
Cuddly little lion...

...and Rockin the fro

Our big/little guy who lately has been tipping the scales at 15 pounds+ (He doesn't look that chunky... I think he's just a big kid!)

What a difference a few months make...

3 months:

Brady now officially is a grabber. He is getting the gist of his hands and now amuses himself by concentrating on grabbing whatever is close to him... toys, articles of clothing, cell phones, hair... you name it. We're working on rolling over at the moment. He's done a few, but mostly I think they were on accident. Anyway, I'm a little late in posting this... but Happy 3 Month Birthday little buddy! We love you!

Some updates for the week

This week Brady really started to try to use his hands. He is still fisted alot, but now when something of interest is in front of him he opens his hands and fingers up and tries to move his hands on top of the object. Its so cute how he concentrates so hard. He's scored a few times by actually grasping the object, but for the most part he's still hitting things with closed fists. Its so exciting to see him make these little developmental steps!

Also today was Brady's first experience with drinking formula. I almost cried. Not really, but it was kind of sad in a way because ever since he was born, I've given him all he needs, and now its like he won't need me. :( The main reason for it is that I am going back to work in 2 weeks (let's not talk about this) and formula will be the backup method of nutrition. I have built up quite the freezer stash of milk though!

Brady's new favorite past time

Brady has taken a liking to the jumper. We might have a future long jumper on our hands (following in daddy's footsteps!)...

Our little peanut

Some updates from recent times...
At Brady's 2 month appointment he weighed in at (just as we had thought) 13 pounds and 23 inches. He's in the 75th percentile for weight and 65th for height. The doctor was very pleased with his growth. He got a couple of shots (aww) but he did great.
He is such a happy little baby. There are no words to describe how it feels seeing his little face smiling ear to ear when he looks into your eyes. I guess the best way is to say it just melts your heart. Bob and I are such saps...we spend our nights just staring at him and kissing him and saying over and over how much we love him and how great he is and how we cant believe he's ours. Ahhh. We, along with Grandpa Johnny and Grammy Carol are certifiably nuts.
I also wanted to make it a point to mark this week as the first time(s) that Brady slept through the entire night!!! On both Monday and Tuesday nights, he slept from 9pm until almost 6am. Yay!!! Although last night he fell asleep early at 8:00 and got up at 3. But ate quick and went back down till 7am. Still, I am not complaining.

Here's a couple of pics of the little munchkin. How could you NOT love him!?! Ok, going in the other room to kiss him now.

Happy 2 month birthday Brady!

Brady turned 2 months today! Its amazing how fast the time has flown by. Bob and I just can't get enough of our little guy. I think I probably kiss him 500 times a day (low estimate). He is getting so big and it seems like every day he grows up a little more. We have a doctor appointment tomorrow, but my guess is that he is up to almost 13lbs.! He's a little porker thats for sure! He is starting to wear his 3-6 month clothes now. He smiles like crazy at us, especially when we go into his room in the morning. Just the other day he started giving us some "coo's" and "goo's" when we talk to him. Its so cute to hear his voice, I can't wait till he starts babbling more regularly! He is holding up his head like a champ now, and we can even pull him up to a sitting position by holding his hands. His legs are really strong and he loves standing up (holding on to him of course). He also loves to sit in his Bumbo chair and play with us laying on the chaise in the living room. Here are some comparison pics from 1 week old until now, using the football (Bob's idea) as a size reference. Look how big he is getting!!!
